Trescray have been working with New Star Asset Management for numerous years in fact we provided the new IP networking and cabling infrastructure for their first building and have been working with them since during their very successful growth. In addition we was part of the project team that helped them move to their current location in Knightsbridge
Whilst in Knightsbridge further expansion has required continued development and evaluation of the network that has recently under gone a refresh to support additional services and the implementation of an Avaya VOIP system.
We were awarded the project to upgrade their core network with an Extreme Networks solution and the new user connectivity equipment.
This equipment provides the new core support for the Gigabit backbone and Layer 3
Wire speed routing plus QOS services for the VOIP system.
To provide a successful ROI on the existing equipment some of this will deployed at a Server Aggregation point for lower specification servers.
The new core is formed of Extreme Chassis units. These are provided with full redundancy and high resilience as key criteria to the design. Multiple ports of 1000Base-Sx for backbone connections are in the chassis plus 10/100/1000Base-T gigabit cards to support core servers.
To support the additional user ports and provide the power requirements for VOIP phones we provided new Extreme User stacks. These stacks were based on high performance Summit 300–24 switches with POE support. Over 400 active ports have been installed.
Installing the new equipment required a cabinet redesign to support the new rack mounted telephone switch and the new network equipment. New fibre and copper interlink cabling was installed between existing network equipment and the new core equipment.
The implementation project plan was based on full pre-staging, testing and a phased deployment with minimal downtime being arranged with the business. The final commissioning went without any issues and ‘was hardly noticed’ as commented on at the time by the client, which is a sign of a successful migration and performance upgrade.
